A homemade light box can be incredibly exciting while being super simple to make.
We have one at school that I made and the little guys haul it off the shelf all day long.
I found a plastic container at the dollar store which had a clear frosted top. You want to have a top that lets the light shine through but the frosted effect makes sure the light isn't too bright for your wee one's eyes.
Next I found a light source which again is bright enough to shine through but gentle on the eyes.
And lastly, I gathered materials that would allow the light to get them glowing when the light was turned on. I use clear coloured plastic cups and animals.
I also use corn meal and sand to cover the top of the container. Then your little guys can use their fingers to make designs in the grit and the light will shine on through.
This is a great activity for encouraging language as it certainly sparks conversation about colours and shapes....really whatever materials you use will guide your dialogue!
When you're finished you can pack up all your materials into your container until next time!
